Ganesha Pancharatnam

śrīgaṇeśapañcaratnam

Five jewel-verses in praise of Gaṇeśa, traditionally attributed to Ādi Śaṅkarācārya, opening with "mudākarātta-modakam".

1 / 6

Verse 1

mudākarāttamodakaṃ sadā vimuktisādhakaṃkalādharāvataṃsakaṃ vilāsilokarakṣakam |anāyakaikanāyakaṃ vināśitebhadaityakaṃnatāśubhāśunāśakaṃ namāmi taṃ vināyakam ||1||

I bow to Vināyaka, who joyfully holds modakas in his hand, who is ever the means to liberation, who wears the crescent moon as an ornament, protector of the world at play; the one leader of those who have none, slayer of the elephant demon, who swiftly destroys the misfortunes of those who bow to him.

Verse 2

natetarātibhīkaraṃ navoditārkabhāsvaraṃnamatsurārinirjaraṃ natādhikāpaduddharam |sureśvaraṃ nidhīśvaraṃ gajeśvaraṃ gaṇeśvaraṃmaheśvaraṃ tamāśraye parātparaṃ nirantaram ||2||

Terrifying to those who do not bow, radiant as the newly risen sun, revered by gods and demons alike, who lifts his devotees out of great calamity; lord of the gods, of treasures, of elephants and of the gaṇas, the great lord, higher than the highest: in him I take refuge, always.

Verse 3

samastalokaśaṅkaraṃ nirastadaityakuñjaraṃdaretarodaraṃ varaṃ varebhavaktramakṣaram |kṛpākaraṃ kṣamākaraṃ mudākaraṃ yaśaskaraṃmanaskaraṃ namaskṛtāṃ namaskaromi bhāsvaram ||3||

Bringer of welfare to all worlds, who drove away the demon elephant, broad of belly, the best, with the face of a noble elephant, imperishable; source of compassion, forbearance, joy and fame, who grants a steady mind to those who bow: to that radiant one I bow.

Verse 4

akiñcanārtimārjanaṃ cirantanoktibhājanaṃpurāripūrvanandanaṃ surārigarvacarvaṇam |prapañcanāśabhīṣaṇaṃ dhanañjayādibhūṣaṇaṃkapoladānavāraṇaṃ bhaje purāṇavāraṇam ||4||

Who wipes away the suffering of the destitute, the subject of ancient praise, the elder son of Śiva, who crushes the pride of the gods’ enemies, fearsome at the dissolution of the world, adorned by serpents such as Dhanañjaya, with temples flowing with ichor: I worship that ancient elephant.

Verse 5

nitāntakāntadantakāntimantakāntakātmajaṃacintyarūpamantahīnamantarāyakṛntanam |hṛdantare nirantaraṃ vasantameva yogināṃtamekadantameva taṃ vicintayāmi santatam ||5||

Son of the destroyer of Death, his tusk shining with lovely radiance, of inconceivable form and without end, who cuts away all obstacles and dwells forever in the hearts of yogis: on that one-tusked lord alone I meditate, always.

Verse 6

mahāgaṇeśapañcaratnamādareṇa yo'nvahaṃprajalpati prabhātake hṛdi smaran gaṇeśvaram |arogatāmadoṣatāṃ susāhitīṃ suputratāṃsamāhitāyuraṣṭabhūtimabhyupaiti so'cirāt ||6||

Whoever reverently recites these five jewels of Mahāgaṇeśa each morning, remembering the lord of the gaṇas in the heart, soon gains health, freedom from faults, eloquence, good children, a long and settled life and the eight kinds of prosperity.
